Project Overview

Algorithmic Oracle is an immersive installation that invites participants to experience a near-future scenario where algorithms completely determine life trajectories.

"The oracle does not predict the future. It creates it." — Installation opening statement

Conceptual Background

In contemporary society, algorithms have permeated every aspect of life: credit scoring, job screening, insurance pricing, and even judicial sentencing. These systems often hide deep biases and opacity under the guise of "objectivity" and "efficiency."

Key Questions

  • What happens when machines become the arbiters of human potential?
  • How do we challenge systems that claim mathematical neutrality?
  • Can design create space for resistance and reflection?

Experience Design

The installation unfolds in three distinct phases:

Phase 01: Data Collection

Participants are invited to answer a series of seemingly innocuous questions while the system quietly collects behavioral data—keystroke patterns, hesitation timing, gaze direction.

Phase 02: Fate Pronouncement

Based on collected data, the "Oracle" announces the participant's social status, career possibilities, and life trajectory in this fictional world.

Phase 03: Reflection Space

Participants are guided into a quiet chamber where they can examine the system's "decision logic"—often absurd and arbitrary connections between data points and outcomes.

概念背景

在当代社会,算法已经渗透到生活的各个方面:信用评分、求职筛选、保险定价、甚至司法判决。这些系统往往以「客观性」和「效率」为名,却隐藏着深刻的偏见和不透明性。

核心问题

  • 当机器成为人类潜能的仲裁者时会发生什么?
  • 我们如何挑战那些声称数学中立的系统?
  • 设计能否为抵抗和反思创造空间?

体验设计

装置分为三个不同的阶段展开:

第一阶段:数据采集

参与者被邀请回答一系列看似无害的问题,同时系统也在悄悄收集行为数据——按键模式、犹豫时间、注视方向。

第二阶段:命运宣判

基于采集的数据,「神谕」宣布参与者在这个虚构世界中的社会地位、职业可能性和生活轨迹。

第三阶段:反思空间

参与者被引导进入一个安静的空间,可以看到系统的「决策逻辑」——往往是数据点与结果之间荒谬而武断的关联。
