Project Overview
Cigarette Blender is a wearable design object that allows the user to simultaneously smoke multiple flavored cigarettes through a helmet-like device with multiple intake channels.
Like mixing a cocktail, different cigarette flavors can be combined to produce layered sensory experiences. Through this process, the user temporarily performs shifting identities constructed through consumption and media imagery.
The project uses a humorous and absurd design approach to reflect on the logic of consumer culture.
Cultural Context
In contemporary consumer society, products are rarely just functional objects. They are tightly linked to identity production, lifestyle imagination, and symbolic self-positioning.
Advertising does not simply promote goods—it constructs roles, emotions, and social fantasies that consumers are invited to inhabit.
Cigarettes occupy a particularly complex position within this system. Historically, tobacco advertising has been heavily restricted in many regions, especially in China, where promotional content cannot explicitly suggest health benefits, stress relief, or emotional enhancement.
This contradiction makes cigarettes a highly charged cultural object: heavily mythologized, yet strictly regulated.
Design Logic
Cigarette Blender exaggerates this cultural logic into a wearable system.
By allowing multiple cigarette flavors to be combined simultaneously, the device turns smoking into a compositional act—similar to mixing identities.
Different combinations evoke different cultural archetypes:
- Cinematic “godfather” masculinity
- Elegant, romantic film imagery
- Rebellious youth subculture
- Detached sci-fi / astronaut-like personas
Identity becomes something that can be assembled, switched, and performed in real time.

我们试图用荒诞的手段重新审视消费主义,作为商品,香烟广告在我国有诸多限制。比如不能在广告中鼓励、怂恿吸烟,不能表示吸烟有利人体健康、解除疲劳、缓解精神紧张等。这一点非常独特,所以我们最终选择香烟来发想,设计了这一款头盔。在轻松的语境下,反思生活中的消费主义陷阱。
体验
使用者佩戴该装置,将其作为一种用于“身份切换”的表演性界面。
不同香烟口味的组合会生成不同的文化联想与想象人格:
- 电影化的黑帮式男性气质
- 怀旧的优雅与魅力形象
- 青年反叛与亚文化身份
- 类科幻式的疏离感与宇航员式虚构人格
通过这些组合,身份被体验为一种外部拼装的结构,而非稳定的内在属性。
批判视角
该项目以幽默作为一种批判策略。
它关注广告系统如何不仅通过产品本身构建欲望,同时也通过“身份转变叙事”来塑造消费动机——即“你购买之后会变成什么样的人”。
通过将这一逻辑放大为一个荒诞的可穿戴系统,《香烟布莱德》揭示了消费主义中身份建构的荒谬性与人为性。
