Project Overview

EJIA® is an ongoing research initiative exploring how future families may live, care, communicate, learn, and grow together under emerging technological and social conditions.

Positioned between speculative design, design research, education, and everyday life, the project develops a growing collection of objects, environments, services, and narrative scenarios that investigate alternative forms of domestic experience.

Rather than proposing solutions, EJIA® treats the home as a site for experimentation. Through fictional products, future household systems, speculative prototypes, and design narratives, the project examines how family relationships may evolve in response to artificial intelligence, distributed living, changing parenting models, and emerging forms of childhood.

Research Context

Contemporary families are undergoing profound transformation.

Remote work, digital communication, mobility, artificial intelligence, and changing social structures are continuously reshaping how people live together. Home is increasingly less defined by a fixed location and more by a network of behaviors, memories, emotional connections, and technological systems.

EJIA® explores these changes through design speculation, using future-oriented domestic artifacts to question how care, companionship, learning, and belonging might be reimagined.

Methodology

The project combines speculative design, object-making, scenario building, visual storytelling, participatory workshops, and future prototyping.

Research outcomes often take the form of fictional household products, spatial systems, interactive installations, future services, illustrated manuals, moving-image works, and evolving archives.

Rather than functioning as market-ready products, these prototypes operate as tools for discussion, inviting reflection on the values and assumptions embedded within contemporary family life.

Objects

Objects presents a growing collection of speculative domestic products developed through EJIA® research.

These projects explore communication, caregiving, emotional support, childhood autonomy, domestic rituals, and future forms of family interaction.

Presented through the language of household catalogues and product manuals, the objects invite audiences to imagine how they might exist within everyday life.

Scenarios

Scenarios expands beyond individual products into larger domestic worlds and future living systems.

These long-form investigations examine emerging conditions such as nomadic families, AI-assisted parenting, distributed households, emotional infrastructures, future childhood environments, and alternative models of cohabitation.

Rather than predicting the future, these scenarios create frameworks through which alternative domestic futures can be discussed and debated.

Central Question

If homes are no longer defined by fixed locations, stable roles, or traditional family structures, what new forms of care, companionship, learning, and belonging might emerge?
