Project Overview
Otaku Happiness Hand is a modular wearable device that attaches to the user’s hand and extends its functional capacity through interchangeable accessories.
The system is designed as a base wearable structure that allows multiple add-on components, transforming everyday home-based activities such as gaming, reading, and snacking into more convenient and continuous experiences.
By integrating tools directly into the hand interface, the system redefines comfort as an assembled condition.
Concept
The project explores the idea of “enhanced domestic ease” through exaggerated modular design.
It imagines a lifestyle where everyday leisure activities are supported by attached functional extensions, blurring the boundary between body, object, and interface.
Rather than optimizing productivity, the system focuses on amplifying comfort, dependency, and playful convenience.
Modular Components
The system supports multiple attachable units:
- Snack Bowl Module: a hand-mounted container for chips, snacks, and small food items, enabling continuous eating during gameplay or leisure activities
- Manga Stand Module: a lightweight armature that holds books or comics at a fixed reading position, functioning as a bookmark and stabilizer
- Tissue Roll Module: a mounted tissue dispenser for everyday convenience and hygiene-related use
- Companion Hand Module: a soft artificial hand designed as a comfort object, simulating the presence of touch and companionship
- Character Support Module: a spring-mounted decorative figure (e.g., anime-style character head) that reacts to hand movement and provides visual encouragement
Each module attaches to the base structure, forming a customizable personal interface.
Interaction Logic
The system operates through physical attachment and motion response:
- Modules connect to a shared hand-mounted base
- Each attachment provides a specific functional extension
- Movement of the hand triggers passive or spring-based reactions
- The system creates a continuous loop between gesture and object behavior
The hand becomes a platform for assembled everyday support.
Critical Perspective
Otaku Happiness Hand uses humor and exaggeration to reflect on contemporary domestic lifestyles and media-influenced habits.
It does not aim to critique individuals, but instead constructs an absurdly supportive system that externalizes comfort, companionship, and entertainment into modular attachments.
The work reflects on how daily life can be gradually reorganized through small technological dependencies.
